Rishi Panchami Puja observed in the month of August to September which is known as Shukla Paksha in Hindi on the fifth day. Rishi Panchami Puja is regarded as one of the most prominent pujas of the Hindu community of Nepal and North India. On this very special day, individuals pay their tribute to the Vashistha, Saptarishis-Kashyapa, Jamadagni, Atri, Gauthama, Baradhvaja, and Vishvamitra. In Kerala Rishi Panchami Puja is known as Vishwakarma Puja. Women who keep the fast of Hartalika Teej, for the Puja of Rishi Panchami are regarded as the last day for their vrat or fast. The main reason behind performing this puja is to show honour and respect to the Seven Sages or the Sapta Rishis. Women keep a very strict fast on this very special day and take a special bath with the herb Datiwan. Women keep this Puja to get a pardon from the Rishis for all their mistakes and ill deeds which they have committed in their life. Puja is performed in a very pure and sacred manner.

How to Perform Rishi Panchami Puja?

On the very auspicious day of Rishi Panchami, interested individuals take a bath in the holy river and clean their mouths and hands 108 times. After doing this Lord Arundhati, Ganesha, Navagraha, and Saptarishis are worshipped. After this, the women distributed the Prasad among their husbands and other people and then they washed the feet of their husbands. After performing this ritual women again took a bath and rubbed their bodies with the red mud several times. They also sprinkle water on their head to be pure and brush their teeth with the help of a particular stick 360 times. After performing this women again took a bath and after the completion of this bath it has been assumed that all the sins which is being done by the women get cleansed away with the holy water.
