Importance of Rishi Panchami Puja

Rishi Panchami pooja falls on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of August-September. Rishi Panchami pooja is considered to be the most one in the Hindu communities of North India and Nepal. People pay homage to the Saptarishis-Kashyap, Atri, Baradhvaja, Vishvamitra, Gauthama, Jamadagni and Vashistha.In Kerala, Rishi Panchami Pooja is observed as Vishwakarma Pooja. For women who do Hartalika Teej Pooja, Rishi Panchami is considered to be the last day for their fast or Vrata. The Rishi Panchami Pooja is done to show respect and honour to the Sapta Rishis- the seven sages. Women observe the strict fast on the day of Rishi Saptami and take a bath with the special herb called Datiwan. Women keep this fast to get pardoned from the Rishis for their ill deeds or mistakes they have committed in their lives. Pooja is done in a very sacred and pure manner.


How to do Rishi Panchami Puja

On the day of Rishi Panchami people take a bath in the holy water and clean their hands and mouth 108 times. After that Lord Ganesha, Saptarishis, Navagraha and Arundathi are worshipped. Prasad is offered to all by women and then they wash the feet of their husbands. Women again take the sacred bath and rub the special red mud on their body for several times. They sprinkle water on their head to get pure and brush their teeth with Dantiwan 360 times. Again the ritual bath is taken and is considered that all the sins of the women are cleansed away with the holy water.


Significance of Rishi Panchami Pooja

The day of Rishi Panchami is being celebrated to commemorate the wisdom and sagacious efforts of Rishi munis. They had given the path to human lives by giving them immense knowledge and power. It is considered in Hindu Mythology that worshipping the seven sages makes the mind and heart pure and bestows the person with a positive aura that helps to make the future bright.
