The goddess Lakshmi celebrates her birth anniversary on Lakshmi Jayanti. The goddess of prosperity and fortune is Lakshmi. It is thought that during Phalguna Purnima, during the tremendous churning of the milky ocean, known as Samudra Manthan, Goddess Lakshmi was created.

It is noteworthy that Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra and Phalguna Purnima Day typically align. Thus, Lakshmi Jayanti is also connected to Uttara Phalguni Day. Lakshmi Jayanti is mainly observed in South India; states in North India are not as familiar with it.

Lakshmi Jayanti is an important day to please the goddess of prosperity and wealth. On Lakshmi Jayanti, people do Lakshmi Homam. Goddess Lakshmi Sahasranamavali, or the 1000 names of Goddess Lakshmi and Shri Suktam, are recited during Lakshmi Homa.
