Importance of Hartalika Teej Pooja

Hartalika Teej Pooja is an important ritual done in order to worship Goddess Gauri or Goddess Parvati. Women celebrate this teej on the third day of the first fortnight in the month of Bhadra. Married women keep this Pooja for the well-being of their husbands and unmarried girls keep the Pooja in order to get blessed with good husbands like Lord Shiva.


How to do Hartalika Teej Pooja

On the day of Hartalika Teej, women should get up early in the morning and wear new saris and jewellery and visit the temples without even taking a single drop of water. After returning from the temple husband’s feet are touched to get his blessings. Before the sunset again the bath is taken and is dressed in the outfit of the bride. After getting dressed place the idols of Parvati and Shiva in the Puja room and the Gaur beside their idols. The Gaur can also be made from a combination of Sand and Clay. After arranging all the Puja items meditation is being done to call Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva in the house. Offerings of Bilva Patra, flowers, and rice coated in Turmeric Powder are done to Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva and Gaur. Light the diyas and offer orange Sindoor, sweets, fruits etc to Parvati and Gaur. In the end, read the Vrat Katha to get blessings of Goddess Parvati and don’t offer the Prasad to anyone on that day. Next Day again wake up early and take a bath and wear new clothes to do Puja and recite mantras of Shenti Mantra, Visajan Mantra and Shama Mantra. After all the Puja break the fast by eating red chana which was soaked in water overnight.

Hartalika Teej Pooja holds a very significant place in the life of women as this Pooja is done for the well-being of the husbands. Hartalika Teej Pooja is the significance of how Goddess Parvati showed her love to God Shiva. After the death of Sati, Lord Shiva started disregarding everyone and he didn’t even notice the love that Parvati had for him. Seeing the ignorance of lord Shiva, Parvati started keeping fasts for him to seek the attention of Shiva. The love and affection that Parvati had for Shiva made Goddess Parvati take rebirth 108 times. This dedication of Parvati made Lord Shiva accept her as his wife. Therefore, women celebrate hartalika teej in a very sacred manner to get the love of their husbands.
