Ganapati Atharvashirsha Sahastravartan

The path of Ganesh Atharvashirsha Avartan is performed on the day of "Sankashti Chaturthi" which falls after the full moon on the fourth day of every month. In case the Chaturthi coincides with Tuesday then it is known as "Asngariki". The Atharvashirsha avartan is quite important on the occasion of Sankashti. However, it is not possible to perform the path on the day of Chaturthi of Atharvashirsha Avartan because of various reasonable conditions. But this occasion can be performed on any other suitable auspicious day. It is believed by the people that Lord Ganesh eliminates sorrows. So, to bring happiness in life it is important to worship Lord Ganesh & perform Atharvashirsha Avartan. The most effective Avartan is Sahastravartan (1000 times) is also very common & beneficial.

The significance of Sahastravartan:

The Atharvashirsha is the definitive text related to Lord Ganesha. Homage is paid to him because he is the supreme deity, the one who subsumes various divinities.  Considered as the holy trinity, he cyclically forms destroys and sustains the universe.  The five elements, celestial bodies, future, present and past are embodied within him.

Importance of Sahastravartan:

As Lord Ganesha is given great importance in the Indian culture the path is also very crucial. With the help of this path, people try to please Lord Ganesh so that they can be blessed with a healthy life and prosperity.

How to perform Sahastravartan:

During the avartan, it is possible to perform abhisheka of the statue of Lord Ganesh.  After the abhisheka, performing the pooja of the shodashopachar of Lord Ganesh is very crucial.

In case you are performing avartan in the morning then have the fasting food like tea, coffee, fruits, khichadi, sabudana etc.  However, if you are performing the avartan in the evening then make sure that avartan is complete by the moonrise time.  You can have regular food after offering Nevaidya to Lord Ganesh.

Generally, one avartan takes about 3 minutes if chanting is done slowly and clearly. Therefore,

If 50 People participate, 20 rounds will be needed to complete sahastravartan and it can be completed in 1 hour for Avartan and 1 hour for Pooja & Aarti; a total of 2 Hours will be required for the event.

If 25 People participate, 40 rounds will be needed & total time 3 hours will be needed.

The Śrī Gaṇapati Atharvaśīrṣa is considered a Vedic religious text which is dedicated to the deity Ganesha or Gaṇeśa. After performing this path, people can get rid of various types of problems in their lives. The main aim of the path is to bring prosperity and happiness to the life of a person who is performing it.

Mantra for Sahastravartan:

One avartan starts from Upnishat i.e. "Hari Om Namaste Ganapataye... || 1 ||" and ends at "Vignanashine varadamurtaye nahmaha...|| 10 ||" before "Falashruti".
