It is said that Goddess Bagalamukhi arrived on earth when she was confronted by an Asura Madan to protect the Dharma (conduct and teachings). To save the devotees from immoral and sinful activities she vanquished the Asura and pulled his tongue. The Asura asked for the absolution from Goddess. This depicts that the serious threat from the sinful people is unwanted speech. People offer prayers on this day to make the evil's speech and feet to get paralyzed.
