King Bali and Devi Lakshmi
The Bali earned noteworthy favour from God Vishnu thanks to his dedication. He asked Lord Vishnu for aid in his kingdom, and God Vishnu went there but Devi Lakshmi was angry with his departure so she also visited there in disguise. She put a Rakhi on Bali’s arm and in return she told that she wanted to be with her better half Lord Vishnu and showed her real form. Bali obeyed and gave her sister what she asked for.
The story of Emperor Porus and the wife of Alexsander is also very famous, in it; Alexander’s wife gave a rakhi to the emperor to save her better half’s life.
Rani Karmavati sent a Rakhi to Mughal king Humayun in order to save her dignity; this is also a famous story.
Raksha Bandhan 2023: Celebration Procedure
A sister always gifts an extraordinary rakhi to her beloved brother and the brother always tries to return gift her sister with the best possible gift. The sister also tries to make sweets and food for her brother and ties to adorn the house.
A sister has to make a puja thali (plate) which shall contain; a diya, kumkum, chaval (rice), sweets and a rakhi, which should be filled with love and affection. The ceremony begins with the sister first doing the pujan, then she puts up a tilak on her brother, then will give him sweets to eat. After these things are done, will give the rakhi to his brother and tie it to his right arm’s wrist. She will also pray for her brother’s long life and prosperity. The brother will also promises to protect her sister from all the bad, evil and dark things. After this, the brother will give a souvenir to his sister which will be a surprise for her. The whole family will enjoy this ceremony, which is awaited by all.
Sisters also have to recite these mantras at the time of tying the rakhi
“Yeena Badho Bali Raja Daanavendro Mahabala.
Tena Twam Anubadhnaami Rakshe Maa Chala Ma Chala.”
And also,
“Suraja Sakhan Chodia, Muli Chodia Beej,
Behan Ne Rakhi Baandhi, Bhai Tu Chir Jug Jee.”
This occasion of Raksha Bandhan is observed all throughout India and in various other countries, albeit with some other name and marginally different tradition. But, the effects, love, mission and the core of the occasion remain the same.
